The role is typically focused on performing publishable work as part of a strategic research program under the guidance of a program manager or other senior research staff member(s). The purpose of this position is to develop new scientific knowledge, technologies and engineering solutions to problems in fire dynamics and material flammability, which can be used for the prevention or control of industrial property loss. Key areas of research include Lithium-ion battery fire hazard analysis, advanced laser diagnostic for buoyant turbulent flames, material flammability and flame heat transfer. The experimental and theoretical studies will be closely integrated with Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) model development and validation within the work group.PhD degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related technical fields.Strong fundamental background in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, combustion, and applied mathematics.Extensive experience in experimental methods in thermal fluids, combustion/fire.Research experience with advanced laser diagnostics in flame and experimental measurement in turbulent flame is desirable.Research experience with Li-ion battery is a plus.Basic understanding of numerical methods and modeling.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated expertise in developing solutions to challenging technical problems.The position is eligible to participate in FM Global's comprehensive Total Rewards program that includes an incentive plan, generous health, and well-being programs, a 401(k) and pension plan, career development opportunities, tuition reimbursement, flexible work, time off allowances and much more.The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
